Working with subscribed newsgroups
Now we will go over interacting with the newsgroups you subscribed to in the previous step.
- Select the 'Subscribed newsgroups' tab (book icon)
- Expand the list by clicking the + sign. Expanding a newsgroup will show you all servers that this group is found on. Notice that some groups are missing. This is because we set the 'Detach groups when absent from server' option. To manually remove a server from a group, right click a server under the newsgroup and select 'Detach the server from the newsgroup above'
- Right click 'Newsgroups' and select 'Get New Headers'
- Now bring up the task manager to watch NewsPro's progress
- Just to experiment, select an active task and click 'Cancel task' If you have any tasks in the pending list, notice they change to a running status
- Click the 'Errors' tab to the right of the 'Headers' tab to see if there were any errors when downloading new headers. To clear errors, click the icon that looks like a question mark with an X through it or select 'Clear errors' from the 'Tasks' menu dropdown

Using initial filters
NewsPro allows you to attach an initial filter to a newsgroup. This is the filter that will be used when you first open a group up.
They can be attached to a newsgroup or a virtual newsgroup. To do this, right click on a group and select 'Initial filter'.
Select a filter from the dialog and it will be applied to that group. Folders with an initial filter will have a gray funnel looking icon in the upper left of the regular icon.
To clear an initial filter, right click on the group and select 'Remove initial filter'. Notice the gray icon is gone now.
For now lets not apply any initial filters.
